3rd Eccles Road Wine tasting

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

OK so lots of wines get mentioned in today’s blog. Last Thursday night we hosted a wine tasting for a bunch of friends. Some of the wines were new and others old favorites. I am going to give a quick overview of each wine rather than a full review. My thanks to everyone who turned up and made it such a fun everning. I’m afraid that as I was host I was unable (read too lazy) to take any notes. So this is all from memory.

Il Cortigiano, Prosecco

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

I was hoping that my second foray into Prosecco would be as good as my first. I am not a massive champagne fan and thus paying (what I see) as over inflated prices for the stuff is something to avoid. If I can find an alterative that is not as expensive it would be nice (for those few occasions when I do drink the stuff). However what I have learned is that cheap Prosecco tastes exactly that. If you want to have a good Prosecco do not pay nothing. The wine I am reviewing cost less than ?É‚Äö?Ǭ£5 a bottle and that should have been the warning signal.

Les Milleres, Domaine Gardies

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

As usual with us we are on another Syrah blend, and no we have not been abstaining for a couple of weeks, we have had a load of nice new wines. Unfortunately, yours truely has not held up his half of the bargin and written about them. Will try to do better. Anyway, onto tonight’s wine. This has a light, earthy nose with a slight hint of fruit. The wine its self is quite light, with smooth but noticable tannins. These smooth out as the wine breaths. I like this wine, bit feel I will like it even more if I can manage to keep a bottle unopened for a year.
